Cut It Fast

Converter to DXF and SVG

A free online converter: turn a photo, PNG, JPG, PDF, DWG or SVG file into DXF, with no login. You can download DXF and SVG once you've confirmed the dimension, and price the same file for laser cutting straight away, without uploading it again.

From a photo we can read line drawings, sketches and logos. A photo of a real part will give distorted dimensions - perspective and shadows warp the outline. For a part, use a DXF or PDF file, or draw it here.

How to convert a file to DXF

  1. 01

    Upload a file

Drop a file on the “I have a file” card, or a photo or scan on the “I have a photo” card. The converter takes one file at a time and needs no account.

  2. 02

    Confirm the dimension

The converter shows the part's width and height in millimetres. You confirm them or enter the right ones, and for a photo you give one number: the width of the whole part.

  3. 03

    Download or get a quote

The “Download DXF” and “Download SVG” buttons work once you've confirmed the dimension. “Cut it from metal” takes the same file to the quote, with no need to upload it again.

What you can convert to DXF

Photo, PNG, JPGThe outlines of the drawing as closed cutting lines.A sketch, line drawing or logo. Each side from 300 to 8000 px; you set the scale with one number.
PDFLines and curves from the first page.Vector only. Convert text to curves. A scan inside a PDF is traced like a photo.
DWGThe same drawing as a DXF.Versions R13 to 2018, units mm and inches. Older versions get export instructions.
SVGA DXF in millimetres. With no units in the file we assume 96 pixels per inch and ask you to check the size.

How do I convert a photo, PNG or JPG to DXF?

Upload the photo or scan on the “I have a photo” card. The converter chooses the brightness threshold itself, finds the boundary between dark and light and turns it into closed outlines; it straightens lines and circles as long as the drawing isn't too complex. If the outline looks wrong, under “Outline looks wrong?” you can pick “Line” or “Fill” mode and move the “Brightness threshold”. We accept JPG, PNG, HEIC, WEBP, TIFF, BMP and GIF.

How do I convert a PDF to DXF?

Upload the PDF on the “I have a file” card. From a vector PDF, meaning one where the shapes are lines, the converter takes the first page and turns it into a DXF at 1:1 scale (72 PDF points make an inch). It ignores a frame around the whole page, while dimension lines stay in as lines, so remove them before you save. Convert text to curves, because text doesn't become cut shapes. A PDF shrunk to fit the page has the wrong scale, which is why you always confirm the dimension. A PDF that is a scan, with no lines, is traced like a photo.

How do I convert a DWG to DXF?

Upload the DWG file on the “I have a file” card. The converter reads DWG files in versions R13 to 2018 and returns the same drawing as a DXF; it recognises units in millimetres and inches. If any shape line were missing after conversion, it doesn't quote the file quietly but asks you to save a DXF 2000 or print to PDF. Versions older than R13 get the same instructions.

How do I convert an SVG to DXF?

Upload the SVG file on the “I have a file” card. Units written in the file (mm, cm, inches, pt) are converted to millimetres exactly. If the SVG has only pixels or no units, we assume 96 pixels per inch (72 for a file from Illustrator) and ask you to check the size. Bézier curves become polylines accurate to 0.01 mm, and full circles stay circles. Convert text to curves, because letters aren't a shape to cut.
