Laser cutting design guidelines
A DXF file for laser cutting goes through a check before we quote it. We fix small things ourselves and show you what we changed - you approve it. If something would change the part, we ask first. Only three problems can't be worked around: no closed contour, a part larger than 3000 × 1500 mm and a drawing with more than 5,000 points. Check your file for free.
We fix it ourselves (you approve most with one click)
- A gap of up to 0.1 mm - we close it.
- Duplicate lines - we remove them.
- Segments shorter than 0.01 mm - we remove them.
- Splines and ellipses - we convert them to arcs.
- Layers with dimensions, text or a border - we skip them.
- Inches - we convert them to mm.
We ask you
- A gap between 0.1 mm and 2 mm - close it?
- A stray line - a slit, or should we skip it?
- Overlapping contours - which one should we keep?
- A hole smaller than the sheet thickness - enlarge it, remove it or leave it?
- A web (the strip of material between two cuts) that is too narrow - leave it?
We won't cut
- No closed contour, or a contour with a gap larger than 2 mm.
- A part larger than 3000 × 1500 mm (even when rotated).
- More than 5,000 points.
- A part smaller than 10 mm.
