Sheet metal weight calculator

The weight of a metal sheet is length × width × thickness × density. A 1000 × 500 mm sheet (mild steel 3 mm) weighs 11.78 kg, and 1 m² of it weighs 23.55 kg. The calculator below works out the weight for mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium PA11 in the thicknesses we cut, and tells you how many courier parcels the order makes.

Calculate the weight of a sheet

Material
We cut:
One piece
11.78 kg
Total
11.78 kg
Courier in Poland
1 parcel (up to 18 kg each)
Courier abroad
1 parcel (up to 15 kg each)

The result is the weight of the sheet alone, without packaging, worked out from the full rectangle. A part with holes and cut-outs weighs less, so it may need fewer parcels. Upload a file - we price it, and weigh the parcels from the true shape of your part.

The formula for sheet metal weight

Mass in kilograms = length (mm) × width (mm) × thickness (mm) × density (g/cm³) ÷ 1,000,000. A shortcut: a sheet 1 mm thick weighs as many kilograms per square metre as its density in g/cm³, and every extra millimetre adds the same again.

What the sheets we cut weigh

The weight of 1 m² and of a 1000 × 500 mm sheet in every thickness on our price list.

We do not cut sheets outside this table, but the formula works for any of them: use the density from the material data sheet. What we don't cut.

The densities we use

These are the same densities we use to weigh parts and count parcels in a quote. A sheet from the mill can weigh a few percent more or less, because sheet thickness is held within a tolerance.

Weight and courier parcels

One parcel weighs up to 18 kg, or up to 15 kg abroad. A heavier order is sent in several parcels, each at the same price. When you upload a file, we work out the weight of your part from its true shape, with the holes taken out, and split the order into parcels on that basis.
