Laser cutting 2 mm mild steel
Laser cutting 2 mm mild steel (S235) is done with oxygen: cutting €0.78/m, sheet €42/m² (scrap included). A sample 184 × 92 mm bracket with 4 holes costs €9.00 for 1 piece and €3.53 per piece at 10 pieces, excl. VAT. The minimum order is €11.21 excl. VAT, from 1 piece. An order paid by 11:00 (Polish time) on a working day is usually ready for collection the next working day. Occasionally a technical issue (such as a machine fault) adds one more working day. As of . What to know about this sheet
Mild steel is attracted by a magnet. It is cut with oxygen, so the edge can show oxide scale and discolouration, and without a coating the sheet starts to rust - it suits painting and galvanising. S235 is a structural carbon steel (the number 235 is the minimum yield strength in MPa), a typical choice for brackets and welded parts.
Prepare your file for this sheet
- Closed contours - every contour must be closed, otherwise we can't tell what to cut.
- Units and scale - draw in millimetres, at 1:1.
- Kerf - draw the finished size of the part; don't offset the contour by half a kerf.
- Layers and text - keep dimensions and annotations on a separate layer, not on the contour.
- Maximum part size - the part must fit the sheet, and a detail can't be too small.
